When depositing data you select a license (or make it proprietary) for your data. By applying a license you do not give up your copyright to your data, but provide guidance about how your data can or cannot be used.
Currently there are a number of license types available:
- Creative Commons Zero -- waive all rights and place work in public domain.
- Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivatives 4.0 -- allows free use with attribution.
- Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY) -- allows others to make derivative works.
- Open Government License - Canada
- Do not apply a license; deposited object remains proprietary
